Mental Health Awareness Week - Camping with Nature

Posted on May 10th, 2021

This year's Mental Health Awareness Week focuses on how you can connect with nature to improve your mental health.πŸ’š

Camping offers you a way to focus on completely being with nature without any distractions.

Here's how time spent camping in the great outdoors with nature can be beneficial to your mental health. πŸ’š

πŸ’šNature is a natural cure.
When you camp, you're directly connecting with the nature around you. Waking up to the sound of the birds, listening to the wind blowing through the trees or following the sound of the stream to get water, we completely underestimate the way in which the brain is influenced by the elements around us. Camping can be mental rejuvenation.

πŸ’š A complete sense of freedom.
When we sleep outside, under the stars or camp, it’s as though we press the reset button and we are more present to what’s around us, pulling our thoughts away from the stresses of modern life.

πŸ’š Embrace Green Exercise
Exercise improves mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and negative mood and by improving self-esteem and cognitive function.
Green exercise is physical activity that takes place outdoors within nature. Walking, Hiking, Running and Cycling are all accessible activities when camping. Did you know? It only takes around 5 minutes of getting physical in a green space for it to start producing positive emotions. It has also been found that green exercise in a 'blue environment' such as lake, river or sea leads to the greatest improvement in mood.

πŸ’š Digital Detox Nature vs Technology is a battle which is affecting all of us, with children being some of the most impacted by the tech at their fingertips. Nature offers an instant digital detox. Camping is a good way to support a child’s mental health, particularly if they spend a lot of time playing computer games or are suffering from anxiety.
